A unique opportunity to gather in the Merrill Apartment for a poetry writing workshop inspired by Merrill's objects with poet and Columbia University writing program professor, Timothy Donnelly.
“The poet produces the beautiful by fixing his attention on something real.”
—Simone Weil
We will read and discuss a number of poems that engage with specific objects and then experiment with writing our own object-based poems inspired by items at the James Merrill House.
*Please note, the apartment is located on the third floor and is only accessible by stairs.
